The Red River

I'm sure there were a number of fantastical legends in ancient times about why this river appears to run blood red, in stark contrast to deep greens surrounding it. Surely this place has inspired tales throughout history.

Orion Nebula

The Orion Nebula is a diffuse nebula situated south of Orion's Belt in the constellation of Orion. It is one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. It is located at a distance of 1,344 light years and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth. The nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across with mass of about 2,000 times that of the Sun.

Comet NEOWISE

Comet NEOWISE is a long period comet with a near-parabolic orbit discovered on March 27, 2020, by astronomers during the NEOWISE mission of the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) space telescope. At that time it was located 190 million mi away from the Sun and 160 million mi away from Earth.

The Pleiades

The Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters is an open star cluster in the north-west of the constellation Taurus. It is among the star clusters nearest to Earth, and is the cluster most obvious to the naked eye in the night sky. It is dominated by hot blue and luminous stars that have formed within the last 100 million years. Reflection nebulae around the brightest stars are considered to be dust cloud in the interstellar medium through which the stars are currently passing.

Andromeda Galaxy

The Andromeda Galaxy is a barred spiral galaxy approximately 2.5 million light-years from Earth and the nearest major galaxy to the Milky Way. The number of stars contained in the Andromeda Galaxy is estimated at one trillion, or roughly twice the number estimated for the Milky Way. The Andromeda Galaxy is among the brightest of the objects, making it visible to the naked eye from Earth on moonless nights.

Rosette Nebula

The Nebula and star cluster within lie about 5000 light-years from Earth and measure nearly 130 light-years in diameter. The radiation from the young stars excites the atoms in the nebula, causing them to emit radiation themselves producing the emission nebula we see. This area is also a star forming complex with over 2500 young stars.

Horsehead & Flame Nebulae

These nebulae are located near the easternmost star of Orions Belt - Alnitak. The Horsehead is a dark nebula in a region of the Orion Complex where star formation is taking place. The Flame nebula on the other hand is an emission nebula which glows from the exitation of hydrogen gas. At the center of which is a cluster of newly formed stars. Both nebula reside more than 1000 Light Years from Earth.

Ben A'an isnt a particularly high mountain. In fact its listed as a smaller hill, or mountain in miniature. But the views from its 1114ft summit are nevertheless spectacular. Especially at sunset.
